Title: Encounter & Exchange on the Court: The Big East Conference Visit the Website Authors: Grant C. & Bryan D. (Grade 8) Project Description: Life was easy for the teams in the old Big East Basketball Conference. Everyone outside of the conference feared them yet also wanted to be like them. There was something special in the air when coaches like George Thompson and Jim Boehiem, or Jim Calhoun and Pick Pitino took the court. The amazing athleticism and basketball talent that was put to the hardwood every night was truly a treat to watch. The intensity and passion as these teams encountered each other on the court surpassed that of even the NBA. Now, all I really remember about this notorious conference was the tournament. The best sixteen basketball teams would get together to play a week's worth of some of the most remembered college basketball games ever in the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden. The Garden was the perfect place to play the most anticipated basketball games of the year. The top talent from all around the country encountered each other on the court, which led to colossal clashes and thrilling finishes that could make or break a team's fate. Title: Roanoke: Exploring the Mystery of the Lost Colony Authors: Vincent M. & Thomas C. (Grade 8) Visit the Website Project Description: The Roanoke Colony was founded in 1587 by Sir Walter Raleigh. The colony eventually became a historical mystery. The entire population of the colony mysteriously disappeared after the governor, John White, went for a supply trip. Centuries of research has been done to try to solve this mystery, and many theories have been made as to what happened to them. The colonists encountered Native Americans, exchanged ideas with them, and explored the New World. While nobody knows what happened to the colonists, the mystery is still thought about today. |
